== Background == The third son of Lucien Navarre, Rogue Trader and planetary governor of the imperial world of Pallas Quintus, Lucius grew up in the lap of luxury and noble finery. Raised on the palace grounds, he was given a formal education by private tutors, taught swordplay, etiquette, commerce and politics. Being the third son and relatively low in the line of succession, his family purchased a commission for him in the Calixian Merchant Fleet as a Free Captain. Taking command of a lightly armed merchant transport, Free Captain Navarre roamed the trade routes of the Calixis Sector seeking profit and adventure, all the while continuing his studies in private.
One day, after years of voyaging, Lucius recieved word of a terrible calamity that had befallen the House of Navarre. His eldest brother was now dead, slain by Inquisitorial stormtroopers as he defended the palaces on Pallas Quintus, his father, second brother, and several cousins were now all under arrest and facing charges of heresy, witchcraft, and consorting with the Ruinous Powers. Trials were swiftly held behind sealed doors, and with nary an explanation or word of justification, the Inquisition had nearly every senior member of the Dynasty put to the flame. The governorship of Pallas Quintus was stripped from the line, and many planetary assets confiscated. Numerous minor noble houses and trading partners of the Navarre Dynasty used the purge as a pretext for the cancellation or usurpation of trade compacts, land rights and investments, and soon the family fortune was reduced to a shadow of its former grandeur.
Devastated by this loss and the enormity of events, Lucius now found himself the heir to the Navarre Warrant of Trade, which remained mysteriously un-revoked, as well as the tatters of the Navarre fortune. He spent weeks in seclusion, taking few meals and seeing almost no-one. Finally he emerged, determined to rebuild the Dynasty and, if possible, redeem the family name and honor. Taking command of the last remaining ship of the Dynasty's fleet, newly renamed "Phoenix", Navarre set out to form an expedition into the darkness of the Koronus Expanse.
