On Asteroid DA-53, there lived a puddle of primordial soup which never got past the bacteria stage of development. The bacterial life within it instead formed a peaceful population, consisting of billions of sentient bacteria working together as a single mono-culture. When they reached the space-faring stage of their development, they invented a technology that allowed them to move their entire puddle of soup as a single body.

The first planet they visited was Mars, where they discovered the signals being emitted by the Curiosity rover, and followed them to Earth. It was here that they made peaceful first contact with Earth scientists. During the course of this cultural exchange, they learned that their asteroid was referred to as "DA-53". They also learned about (and were amused by) Roman numerals, the X-Files, and early 2000s leetspeak, and thus figured out that "DA-53" could also be spelled "DAVE". They therefore named their floating pool of bacteria "Planet Dave" after David Duchovny, and modeled a robotic suit in the (very general) shape of David Duchovny, the better to interact and empathize with the giant humanoid beings.

Not long after, they learned for the first time what "war" is. This concept bothered them, on many levels, not least of all because their culture hadn't experienced so much as an argument amongst themselves in over three thousand generations. They swiftly educated themselves on all forms of conflict and all the best ways of avoiding or ending it, which they came to understand as "diplomacy". They also made modifications to the robotic suit to include a suite of defensive measures.

After assisting Earth scientists with a few swift advances in the fields of medicine, agriculture, and creepy sci-fi serials (during which they became the first extraterrestrials in Earth history to win an Emmy), Planet Dave was satisfied with their relationship with Earth, and took once again to the stars, to seek new life and new civilizations.
