===Personal Details=== ====APPEARANCE==== Red is a large, muscular man standing about 6' 2". He's 31 years old, caucasion, shaved head (which would be severly balding black hair if he stopped shaving). He tends to dress down, often wearing sweatpants and old sneakers. (Partially this is practical, as such clothing is easy to remove if he needs to shapeshift in a hurry.) ====HISTORY==== Redford Grant was born in one of the small rural communites that make up all of Minnesota outside the twin cities. His father died when he was a teenager, and he left high school a few months early in order to go to work at the local factory to support his mother and three siblings. This lasted a few years, until his younger brother turned 18. At this point, Red realized that he had two choices. He could continue to support the family while his younger siblings finished school and (hopefully) went to college, but that meant that he would be stuck at the factory the rest of his life. Or he could run. It was a selfish decision and one he still feels guilty about, but Red essentially turned to his brother and said, "your turn", before making a sudden departure to the big city. (A lot of tension remains in the family regarding this decision.) In Minnesota, "big city" means one of the Twin Cities. That Red chose St. Paul over Minneaplis was as much chance as anything else. He knew a guy there who would let him sleep on a couch while he looked for work. Red had gotten into boxing in high school, and he continued to train in St. Paul. He dreamed of someday going professional. At was during a boxing match, however, that he Awakened. Between one blow and the next Red made a trip through a vibrant forest to a tower made of wood. After a brief period when he thought himself insane, Red's untrained interaction with the local spirit world brought him to the attention of a Silver Ladder mage. After an evaluation period, it was determined that he was likely best suited for the Adamantine Arrows and he was turned over to the Order of Mars for training. While he recieved some instruction from all the cabal in turn, Red was trained most specifically by twin Thrysus mages who styled themselves "Castor" and "Pollux", being focused primarily towards Life and Spirit respectively. The overall reception Red received from the Order of Mars was somewhat chilly. They trained him as duty that was not particularly wanted, but that nevertheless had to be undertook. It's been made clear that they expect Red to repay his debt to them someday, when circumstances warrant. Some of this was due to philosophical differences. After a year or so, once he had really started to get his feet wet in the mage world, Red decided that the Order of Mars was not living up to the ideals of the Adamantine Arrows as first pitched to him. He had been told that the AA stood on the front lines of the mage world, working to defend other mages and sleepers from the dark things that lurk in the shadows. This was an appealing idea to Red, but in practice it seemed as though the OoM was nothing but foot soldiers for the Consilium rather than defenders of all St. Paul mages. For a while Red semi-affiliated with the Frogtown Boxers, but found many of their conflicts to be self-generated and somewhat pointless. When an opportunity came to join with the other PCs in a cabal, he was happy to get together with a group that seemed as thought they needed protecting. If Red feels the Order of Mars are too political, you can imagine what he thinks of the PRA. Still, it should be noted that Red has never killed a human being and doesn't particularly want to ever do so. Throwing down with PRA members is one thing, but he would be reluctant to outright kill one of them, no matter how he feels about their policies. Red has some amount of respect from the Adamantine Arrows as a whole for his idealistic attitudes, even if the Order of Mars feels unfairly criticized. He is willing to cheerfully help any Consilium mage who needs it, though he expects to be compensated afterwards. As best he can, Red tries to keep abreast of whats going on in the local Shadow and help expel any spirits that are troubling human beings. Red has a Familiar that manifests itself as a rather large dog. On a mundane level, Red works as a personal trainer all he can and as a bouncer to make ends meet. ====PERSONALITY==== Red is a bit of a jokester, always using humor to help defuse tense situations. Though officially his Shadow Name is "Laces", he finds the whole concept of shadow names to be a bit silly and is bad at protecting his real name. Half the people he knows think "Red" is a nickname anyway.
