===Personal Details=== ====APPEARANCE==== Somewhat like Thomas Hayden Church wearing a pilot's suit with the Pendragon family crest on the back and "Reynolds" on the lapel. That 'clothing' is a natural part of his sand form, but he's capable of manifesting only his body and putting on real clothing when not doing superhero stuff. ====BACKGROUND==== Rick grew up in the American southeast, having variously lived in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama as a teenager. His father couldn't keep a job, which was partially due to prison record stemming from a conviction for once having served as a henchman for mastermind known as "the Monarch". Other than that, the world of the supers didn't affect Rick much, though of course he saw them on television and read about local heroes and villains in the newspaper. With no money for college and only average grades anyway, Rick joined the Army as soon as he graduated high school. He did well there, soon qualifying for helicopter pilot training as a warrant officer. However, Rick had always nursed a certain lack of respect for rules and laws that got him into trouble more than once as a teenager. He was never caught at anything terribly serious, but note operative word "caught". Rick served in the Army for twelve years. He was "discouraged" from trying to re-up for another term after having been caught up in a court martial over a supply theft ring. No one could prove he had been anything more than negligently oblivious, but suspicions were there and he avoided a dishonorable discharge by a hair. After leaving the Army, Rick quickly got a commercial helicopter pilot's license and went to work for a private security firm as a pilot. And that's where life got interesting. After a couple of years of good service, Rick was assigned to a contract with the famous Pendragon family. Though some of the more famous members of the family can fly under their own power, many members of that illustrious and wealthy lineage require the services of an air vehicle and helicopter. Rick met many of them. Among the Pendragons he became most familiar with was Dorothy Pendragon, nicknamed "Scanner". About a decade younger than Rick and the middle of three daughters in her family's branch, Dorothy had manifested psychic ability at an early age. She could read minds, and she seemed to like what she saw in Rick's mind. Quite possibly she has a thing for the bad boys. The two of them began a discreet relationship. Though not really temperamentally or physically suited for superhero type work, Dorothy's ability to probe minds was/is usually in high demand... and not only from other Pendragons. While Rick was piloting her across the city one day, their helicopter was seized by a powerful magnetic force and dragged from the sky. The perpetrator, a "Professor Forward", demanded that Dorothy read the mind of a captive of his- a visitor from the future, he claimed. Rick tried to object and was beaten down by the Professor's henchmen, then tossed into a half-full bin of radioactive sand contaminated by the Professor's experiments. To intimidate Dorothy, Professor Forward turned his disintegrator beam on Rick while she watched. As he felt himself start to fall apart, Dorothy reached out to his mind and sustained it, lending him the force of will to continue existence. Somehow he reached out to the radioactive sand, its substance bonding with and replacing his body even as the disintegrator beam tore it apart. Moments later, he erupted from the bin as a living mass of sand, smashing the Professor and all his henchmen. At first Rick could barely keep body together and was unable to communicate, except to Dorothy through her telepathy. Over the course of weeks she helped him develop the control to speak and even to force his sand body into a form that looked and felt like his old human one. Just in time to stand beside her and take their wedding vows, as a matter of fact. There were lots of guests from all branches of the family. ====PERSONALITY==== Sandbag doesn't have much respect for the rules and isn't by nature a very nice man, but he's trying to be a better person for the sake of his wife. Internally he's haunted by the loss of his humanity, despite Dorothy's insistance that it doesn't matter. He tends to get irritated easily and likes to take a direct approach to solving problems. Particularly annoying to Rick is that while he used to be an avid swimmer and boater, he now can't get anywhere near big bodies of water without risking his sand body turning into a pile of muck. (Though when he really needs to clean the gunk out of his grit, he'll seal a drain very tightly, fill out a vat of water, and dissolve for a while before crawling out to dry.)
