== January 1, 2020 -- The Arches Appear == When they appeared, it was all at once. The time was pegged to 12:00 PM GMT. They appeared in and around population centers, and in publicly available locations. Some appeared on private property, some on nominally public land, but not one Arch has been seen in a location that wasn't originally open to the public. Initially, there was curiosity about them, and not much more. Sure, they came out of nowhere, looked like something out of a sci fi author's wet dreams, and certainly looked like something an invading force could come through, but they didn't '''do''' anything. Then, not long after they showed up, while the military was still trying to figure out what they could do with literally hundreds of thousands of apparently inert technology, or if they needed to do anything at all, someone stepped through. Perhaps things would have gone differently had it been another person, or if the video of her walking through the Arch hadn't gone viral in a big way. The video really does say it all, though. It's good quality - direct from a news team's coverage - of a middle aged woman going through the Arch, and a demonic figure appearing on the other side. Of course the police opened fire. Fortunately for her, the change did make her tough, and she escaped. That, of course, was when the governemnts and military kicked into high gear to quarantine the Arches. Of course, they couldn't be everywhere, and as ''Demona'' managed to get her story out, the shock and panic reduced. Nonetheless, it wasn't until then - about three weeks after - that people started actively looking to enter an Arch.
