== Description == Varius is a short, stocky man with black eyes and close-cropped dark brown hair; his face is clean-shaven but would probably benefit from a beard. Varius tends to hunch in on himself and does not easily open up to others, being too used to being by himself, but is well-spoken enough if you can get past that. His eyes light up when his passion for crafting is brought to the fore, and he can be worryingly enthusiastic about making things that explode, but for the most part he is a calm, stolid individual. His epithet comes from the open-fingered steel gauntlet that he wears at almost all times. Though lined with leather, it is designed so that the metal touches his skin directly at numerous points - unless touching iron or steel, Varius cannot cast magic. His items similarly share this flaw, though it is generally not difficult for Varius to work some iron into them in an appropriate fashion. Varius is a fairly un-Verditius Verditius, largely uninterested in fame, glory, or wealth. His chief passion is his research, and he is always on the lookout for new and interesting materials to work with, as well as opportunities to test his latest creation (which he likes to do personally). In truth, Varius finds the arrogance and hubris common to Verditius magi disconcerting, and his secret research project (perhaps no less hubristic) is to overcome the flaws of Verditius magic that lead those of the cult to become so. Varius has not breathed a word of this ultimate end to anyone, however, not even his parens. Especially not his parens.
