== Why are Mega-Attributes Alpha now? ==

Mega-Attributes were changed to work nearly like normal attributes, because, conceptually, Super Strength is just more strength. Since normal attributes cost 4exp, the Mega-Attributes are essentially a cheaper form of the regular attributes, with some drawbacks.

When Mega-Attributes were Gamma powers, they cost 7exp, which was almost twice as much. For this reason few people took more than a dot or 3. This meant they couldn't usually buy the kind of stats needed to preform iconic superhuman feats, which is less fun. 

Mega-Attributes, Skills and Specialties can't cause direct damage, and that's done so as to balance higher ratings against the fact that many players won't want to take Mega-Anything, and if some do and some don't, they can't as often participate in the same combat scenes. Players of Exalted will be familiar with this problem; The combat-proficient characters require tough enough challenges that the less combat inclined characters can't even be on the scene and survive. This tends to result in game-play frustration. 

As powers, 'Megas' can be targeted by powers and effects which alter or remove powers. 

Without these issues 'Megas' would be close enough to regular stats that the player might as well buy the regular stat.
