== Background == ====Mission==== In a better world, Paxton Kral would be hunting in the king's forest about now. Or perhaps attending balls and festivals, and determining which of the beauties he would have on his arm for the evening. At the least, the wealth and titles due him were enough to make his life one of ease and reflection. It was surprising to his parents when he was blessed with a powerful talent in mind magic. Not exactly essential for someone who would inherit a barony, but they saw a potential to make rivals squirm with the threat of such power. If they knew that his talent would drive him to brink of insanity - it's possible they might have regretted his training. At first, when the lessons of the Mind Mages of Thura Kral opened his mind, he thought the tapping was... normal. A vague sense of someone or something tapping on a door or wall. At first, it wasn't enough to keep him awake. His teachers assumed it was a byproduct of his talent, and thought it would diminish as he gained mastery. It didn't. By the time he achieved his majority, the 'tapping' had grown louder and sleep was difficult to come by. And it wasn't just tapping anymore. As he grew older, Paxton began to hear what almost sounded liked screams of outrage. Screams of... torture. Eventually, the sounds in his head grew to be too much to bear. Paxton feared for his fraying sanity, and what he might do to those whom he loved. He left his family, titles and a betrothed behind and traveled to where he thought the source of the tapping originated: somewhere beneath the earth. The Underdark. It nearly took the rest of what gold he brought with him, but eventually he made his way to the dwarven city of Forgehome. Once there he began an exhaustive investigation into what he could possibly be connected to. It was with horror that Paxton began to learn of the legend of Torog. Soon after, perhaps by coincidence of fate - Paxton was struck by a crushing thought-sending that blotted consciousness for over an hour. It was called the ''Challenge of Torog'' by those who heard it. Everything was clear now, of course. Paxton realized what he must do. Answer the challenge, or fall further into the abyss of insanity.
