== SUPER POWERS WORLD WAR II == At the start of the campaign, the British have an edge in super powered personnel. The secretive British intelligence unit, founded in 1926, known as Branch Nine (the pun was very much intended from the start), began gathering intelligence on and recruiting democracy supporting super powered individuals from around the globe to fight in a potential war effort. As a result, when German, Italain, and Spanish aggression and the rising tide of fascism made war seem inevitible, a flood of super powered volunteers hit the British military. The British created a seperate armed forces strcucture, called the Talent Operations Group, to sit alongside it's other military organizations. The TOG saw to the basic military training of super powered volunteers, and then seconded it's super powered forces to British military units. The so called Axis powers of German, Italy, Spain, and Japan had an edge (at least at the campaign start) in the reverse engineering of ancient Atlantean technology, and had created industrialized war machines / war technology based on Vrill or Telluric energies. They also fielded super powered military forces - but at a much smaller clip than did the British (by early 1941, at least) <HR> === BRANCH NINE === The so-called Hammermith incident, which saw an explosion of Telluric energy which entered and spread throughout Earth's magnetosphere was attened by Dr. Hammermith, by 27 invited guests, and by one uninvited guest. The invited guests included Howard Stark, us inventor and industrialist; Emillo Mola, Spanish military officer, polyglot, and scientific prodigy. Emillo Mola would go on to be one of 3 major players in the Nationalist revolution in Spain. Right after the Hammersmith incident, Emillo Mola began research into Atlantean history, archaelology and scientific principles. By the outbreak of World War II, he was considered the foremost researcher and inventor of modern applications of Atlantean derived technologies. Emillo invested a significant amount of time from 1933 to the outbreak of World War II hunting down and finding Atlantean artifacts, archeaological sites, and written materials. He gathered together a cadre of trusted Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese comrades who would form the basis of his informal intelligence network during the war. (GM Note, Emillo Mola is a real spanish historical figure - here he is being fictionalized into a rank genius who spearheads the Axis powers use of Atlantean technology during the war - he is also this game's main villain). The uninvited guest was Sidney George Reilly - considered to be one of British intelligence's top operatives. He was instrumental in saving the invited guest from the fire that resulted from the Hammersmith experiment. Immediately following the incident, Hammersmith spent time with British policitcal and intelligence leaders. Based on his briefing with them - in a secret charter passed by Parliment - the British created an intelligence agency led by Reilly called Branch Nine. Reilly had his death faked in 1925 - and by all appearances he dropped off the face of the earth in 1925. In reality, he spent the next decade finding out about, and attempting to recruit, a massive army of super powered individuals to fight in a future war Reilly felt was inevitible. At the start of the campaign, George Reilly still leads Branch Nine. He personally recruited the players' characters into Branch Nine. (GM Note, Reilly is a real historical figure - here he is fictionalized into a character who gained Precognitive powers and foresaw the start of World War II. He runs the intelligence agency to which the player character's belong - and he individually and personally recruited each PC. As a GM, I am explicitly saying Reilly is a fascist hating good guy who wants to see the fascists defeated and democracy protected).
