==Background== The Veghardyr Clan (which literally means high battle in ancient dwarvish, which was what dwarves called archery in the First Age) was the first clan to learn the way of the bow during the Ancient Elf Wars, and jealously clung to their traditions even as most of their kind moved on to prefer crossbows. Today the clan has dwindled down to a minor house of bowyers and fletchers. Grim preferred using bows to building them, and even from a young age he took umbrage at the unfairness of society. At the way some poele took advantage of others. He took serves as a scout with the Ovaedarkad Guard, patrolling the tunnels, but eventually took up bounty hunting to stop the human criminals from cheating or preying upon his people. When a group of local dwarves, including Eldrodh... the son of the High Thane Avaldamon, killed a cousin of Grim's, the High Thane whisked the killers out of the Ovaedarkad to escape justice. Furious... Grim started hunting Eldrodh's friends, bringing them back for trial, one by one. The High Thane tried threats and bribes and all sorts of underhanded techniques to deter Grim, or pressure his family into stopping him, but the stubborn dwarf persisted. Grim eventually brought Eldrodh in, and because the evidence was damning, the Dwarf King had him executed. High Than Avaldamon vowed to get revenge upon Grim. Rumors of him being a DwarfKiller surfaced first... then the combination of trumped-up charges and bribed magisters left him branded as the first Ilkith in seven generations. It meant 'not dwarf'... an outcast from his people. Even his family turned his back on Grim. Part of him expected it... it was the only way to keep themselves save from the High Thane's wrath. Another part of him had to wonder... was it just self-preservation, or were they really ashamed of him? In reality, Grim just believed in justice. With all the monsters and threats out there, he thought crime, especially dwarf on dwarf crime, was the worst offense possible. The 'good races' of the world needed to stand together against evil... nothing should be allowed to tear that apart. Grim left the dwarven kingdom but continued to hunt those who betrayed society, be it human, elf or dwarf. He eventually made his way to Elgard, and met up with the bugbear ranger, Ugrath. Once again he was forced to reevaluate how he saw the world, for here was one of the 'evil races' that was showing more honor than some dwarves he'd met. Ugrath was still savage at times, with feral instincts that he tried hard to suppress. But inside was also a man trying to do what he thought was right. Dwarves have a long memory however, and High Thane Avaldamon continues to send assassins after him. Grim Highbattle truly has earned the title of Dwarfkiller.
