==Background== Wulfgyth's mother was a woman of Mirkwood who married a Beorning hunter and went to live with him by the Old Ford. Wulfgyth grew up amongst her father's folk, learning to hunt and to guard the Ford, yet she would often accompany her mother to visit her relations in Mirkwood. This experience of two worlds gave her a unique insight and perspective on things. Feeling loyal to both, yet different from either, she came to develop an independent wilfulness, a feeling of belonging only to herself. One winter, when she was fifteen years old, she was hunting near the mountains with her father, when they found themselves in the presence of orcs skirmishing in the western Vales. Her father was hit by an arrow in the leg, and Wulfgyth defended him as he lay wounded, slaying two orcs before being struck unconscious herself. The last thing she saw as her vision faded was a huge bear rushing upon the orcs from the snow-fields with a roar like thunder. Awakening back in her stead, her father - wounded but alive - told her how the skinchanger had come to their aid, but that if it hadn't been for Wulfgyth's own bravery they would have both died before the Bear arrived. He told her to learn all she could of orcs and their ways. After this, she began to have dreams where she would transform into a bear, slaying the enemies of her combined peoples. The dreams intensified, until she found she could leave her body at night to walk in spirit form amongst the Vales. She recently came to Rhosgobel to tend to her dying grandmother. As the old woman passed away, she delivered an ominous warning. She said that shadows were lengthening in the Wood, and that heroic deeds would be needed to keep her people from a terrible doom. Wulfgyth now seeks the Brown Wizard's counsel, to see if he can shed light on the old woman's disconcerting words.
