===Character Creation Questions=== '''How old are you?''' * 83 '''What was your family life like?''' * Eight Treasures was born on the Isle to a young patrician family in one of the semi-rural areas far from the Capitol. He was a remarkably boring child, strangely disciplined as a youth. A remarkable physical dexterity combined with discipline and innate temperance would have made him highly suited for a rigorous craft, but left him ill-fit for a patrician's life of management, politics, and trade. It did, however, suit him for training in physical pursuits. Martial arts was in fashion that decade, as it was removed from the actual waging of war and unit formations and thus relatively safe and non-threatening. Eight Treasures took to his life as a boring martial arts student, and rapidly graduated to being a boring martial arts master. His discipline and lack of interest in dissipating pastimes like drinking, gambling, and whoring served him well during the fights and tournaments that decided rank and stature among the mortal martial artists of the Isle. In the end, however, he was very good but not legendary, and still mortal. Age took its toll, and he retired to run a successful school near his relatives. He entered an arranged marriage with a woman he could tolerate, and should have died a substantial but not memorable success. Years passed, and he buried his wife and then took a new, young one after a suitable mourning period. With several children, the oldest having children of their own, he took up tailoring as a hobby to make clothes for them. He aged and his skill grew, albeit progressively more hampered by his aging body, and he began to bury his oldest children as they died of old age. Rumors grew around him, and he steadily retreated from society. After he outlived both his youngest daughter from his second marriage and his first grandchild, both in their forties, he left for an abode on a lonely mountain with the intent of finally dying alone. A few intrepid youth visited the Old Master of Kiraki Mountain, and his monthly request of supplies that he could not arrange for himself came and went. '''Where are you from?''' * A semi-rural area on the west side of the Blessed Isle. '''How were you Exalted?''' * Finally, a young man came to climb the mountain who did not know who Eight Treasures was, or that he was even on that mountain to begin with despite living in the same town. He had been reduced to a minor tale of an ancient man with a half a dozen variations, none of which anybody cared about anymore. This, at last, bothered the master. He saw the boy off near the end of the day, and began to brood. Who would remember him, or his family? Even if somebody did, they too would die one day. If he had been wilder, pushed farther like some of his rivals he could have left a greater legend. But surely that too would fade in time. He rushed to a nearby stack of paper, tore it in his haste to start writing, and stared in dismay at the fragile pieces. He looked out a nearby window at the rock wall of the mountain, and noticed how it was weathered and riven by water and tree roots. He looked out at the setting sun, and realized that nothing he could make would last very much longer than he himself had lived. But there were other powers in the Realm; the strength of the Dragonblooded, immortal gods, scheming demons, wily fae, and who knew what else? He took in a great breath, gathered his belongings and set off down the mountain to render an imperishable record of his, and everybody else's, life. Strength flowed into his limbs and his eyesight cleared as the sun slipped under the horizon. '''When did you meet your companions?''' * Knowing his very presence on the Isle imperiled his family, he got up and left. After landing in the Threshold, he attracted the attention of Kama Dandi who directed him to a place where he could grow accustomed to his new power without ending up impaled on a jade weapon. '''How has power changed you?''' * Power allows Eight Treasures to surpass the failings of age, for a time at least, and match foes that he could only ever stall during his more active days. It has given him the time and ability to find or force a solution to the impermanence of memories. '''What do you think of mortals?''' * Eight Treasures cares substantially for the wellbeing of the legacy of a mortal's life, but shares less interest in that life. One must stand on one's own, although there are some things mortals cannot and should not have to handle. '''What motivates you to be a hero?''' * Eight Treasures wishes that no one be forgotten to the passage of time. '''Who or what do you worship?''' * Having lived for decades in an area where the Immaculate Faith is strong, he sees the gods as a distant and uninvolved force. '''What would drive you to commit murder?''' * Rampant destruction of history or of the things left behind by the departed who could not leave a record. Threats to his extended family. Assaults on those who could not be expected to defend themselves against magical power.
