= X-COM: The Bureau =

In 2020, the Starspawn invaded Earth openly after years of covert activity and abductions. X-COM was put on the front lines to fight back the alien attackers and has been doing an admirable job. With their activities revealed to the public, X-COM is now widely viewed as Earth's first, last and best hope of defense against the mysterious invades

But what isn't widely known is that X-COM actually existed sixty years earlier, and fought off an alien attack on earth in secrecy.

Founded in 1957, the Bureau of Strategic Emergency Command (colloquially known as the Bureau) was originally designed as a communist counter-insurgency agency at the height of the Cold War, meant to be a last resort effort against a Soviet Invasion. However, the first and only director, Myron Faulke, quickly uncovered a series of mysterious transmissions throughout the world, strange occurance and traces of otherworldly technology. Working his science team, he soon came to the conclusion that an extraterrestrial force was operating on earth with hostile intent. Of course, the rest of the US government thought this was laughable. Making sure not to appear too crazy, Faulke used the resources granted to him as director of the Bureau to construct and define the organization to investigate and defend against this hostile force.

Researching trace amounts of alien material recovered during the investigation has led to astounding breakthroughs in the field of power and strategic weaponry, though only the Bureau agents believe it to be alien in origin, allowing Faulke to continue his investigation.

After years of investigation, Director Faulkner believes he finally has information to convince the leaders of the United States of the Outsider Threat. A high level meeting at Groom Range has been scheduled. A courier is en-route with an alien artifact recovered from the Elerium mine in Montana. Solid proof of the existence of aliens.

Unfortunately, the Outsiders have already begun to move their plan forward beyond anything Faulke realizes.
