=Character Hit Points= The hit points that characters have at first level are the only hit points that represent their physical condition. These hit points should be noted as vitality. They never change. All hit points added at second level and higher represent a combination of luck, skill, fatigue, magic, and the blessing of the gods. Most importantly, those hit points don't represent anything more serious than a scratch or minor bruise for character. So long as a character doesn't take sufficient damage to drop into their vital hit points (1st level value), they can quickly and easily recover their hit points. When a character takes enough damage that they drop to their vital hit points, they are seriously wounded and will take considerable time to recover. They can recover none of their higher hit points until the vital hit points are fully recovered. Typically, those hit points heal at the rate of 1 hp/week, so long as the character remained at positive hit points. A character that is dropped to negative hit points, will recover at 1 hit point per month until they are at positive hit points and then will recover positive hit points at 1/week until they have restored all their vital hit points. If a character remains above their vital hit points, then they will recover half the hit points lost in any given battle with a short rest after the battle. They will regain all of their hit points with a night's sleep.
