===Biography=== Dr. James Spenser was born in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. He earned a doctorate in nuclear physics from MIT. That was also where he had met his wife Joan. They had set up a laboratory in Star City to work on a project to create a new energy source. It was during one of their first live experiments that something went terribly wrong. A few blocks away, the supervillain known as Strongarm had botched a bank robbery. He engaged the Living Laser in battle; a battle which eventually crashed through the walls of the Spenser's lab. During the battle, the Laser was knocked back into the experimental reactor. The additional energy level provided by the Laser's body caused an overload in the reactor. A stray beam of energy from the reactor struck James, who appeared to disintegrate. Laser was able to shut down the reactor before it exploded, but not before Joan Spenser had been exposed to a lethal dose of radiation. A few days after the experiment, a nurse at the hospital reported a shadowy form in Joan Spenser's room just before she passed away. A week later, authorities that were trying to track down Strongarm found him the victim of an apparent suicide with a note written in his own blood saying "One down. One to go". Dr. Specter made his first appearance as a villain a few weeks later. During a hostage situation at a goverment building where Living Laser appeared to help, one of the SWAT sharpshooters fired on Living Laser. When subdued, the officer claimed he didn't do it. Some "force" had made him try and kill the hero. At which point Dr. Specter attempted to leap out of the SWAT officer and take control of the Living Laser. He was unsuccessful in his attempt, and was forced to flee the scene. Over the next couple of years, Dr. Specter attempted kill the Living Laser on several occasions. Because he couldn't manage to take over the Living Laser himself, Dr. Specter started preying on the heroic community at large to see if he could use one of them to finish the job. He would take control of a hero, begin to commit a series of crimes as that hero until he drew the attention of the Laser, at which point he would attempt to kill him. As Dr. Specter started to better understand the powers he recieved, his strategy started to change. After learning he could read people's minds, he was able to learn the secret identity of his arch enemy. Instead of causing random havoc to see if he could lure out his enemy, Dr. Specter started targeting the people Living Laser cared for. When the Living Laser was killed by the V'Sori, Dr. Specter became furious. He wanted the Laser dead, but he also wanted it to be at his hands after he had been emotionally broken. He now wants revenge on the V'Sori for denying him his vengeance on his long time foe.
