Until recently Sir Gangdis was considered mostly ''Retired''

A mostly mostly ''Retired'' Elite.  Aging badly.  A known lush. Prone to sleeping on duty. Occasionally brought back for low-priority assignments.

While all Elites receive a knighthood, Gandis received the Valorous Knight of Amber, First Class, during the Siege of [[Bunny Free]].  This highest of knightly orders gives him a great deal of leeway among the soldiers of Amber.  [[Amber_Knightly_Order]] 

His official rank is Sergeant. His unofficial Rank is Fourth General, equal to a Brigadier General.
====Opinion of Gangdis====
While often an object of scorn or pity, Gandis has many strong admirers including Prince Benedict, Prince Gerard, King Corwin, Prince Julian, Princess Fiona, Princess Flora, and Dworkin himself. He is considered a legend and is often found among those recently promoted to the Elites.  He is a frequent presence, if not officially an instructor at [[Nasty Place]].
====Relmapator====
Currently assigned to Protective Services for Lord Relmopator Barimen, Son of Satura.  It is unclear if this was a prank on Realmer or a punishment for Gandis. At the time Realmer had spent a hundred years in his apartment in the dungeons. Gang did as his Elite was questionable. His state of life, dying of old age was well known.

During Lord Relmapator service as Ambassador to [[Adagalasck]], Sir Gangdis siddenly and surprisingly grew young.  The [[Aging in Amber]] function also worked in certain parts of Adagalasck.  This new youth was as much a surprise to him as it was to everyone else.

His youth made him suddenly a member of the inner circle of the Military of Amber and a member of the [[Drum Room Council]]. 

He was given permission by King Random to serve King Julian.


====Academics====
Attending lectures was sort of a hobby for Gangdis. He spent so much time as an Embassy guard Sgt and his tendacy to drink meant Embassy Duty Commanders tended to consider his service almost honorary unless there was combat. He was good to have around for telling stories and his honorary rank was often higher then everyone else's.

The fact was he didn't drink as much as people thought.  He never missed an assigned duty. He was always there if battle was called for.  But this left a lot of free time for someone who might spend a hundred years in a posting.  In Fantalin, Diaga,& Nenton he attended school formally.  In other postings he found schools for many things. This explains his odd collection of skills.
====Diaga, Stage magic, & Thievery====
In 3000 Amber, Sir Gangdis serves in Diega as a Pattern Guard, assumes a guise as Adalfos the Magician and Grit the Thief. He will be there in one guise or another for over five hundred years.
