=History= Two weeks before the wedding of respected Delzhan negotiator Abe Tavin and the beautiful and intelligent Carisel, the village they were to have made their home was sacked by the forces of the First and Forsaken Lion. Among the spoils taken by the Grey Rider in the Wastes, a powerful Abyssal leading the raiders, was Carisel. Her betrothed, who had been out hunting in the canyons, returned to find the village burned, and a message from Carisel written in the ashes. He set off in pursuit of the warriors, and upon finding them, convinced them that they were lost, and that only he could guide them back to the shadowland in the Fire Mountains. In the many days of marching that followed, he sowed discord between two rival, mutinous groups of humans and ghosts, and lured one faction into an ambush by another. With the raiders distracted, he and Carisel made their escape. They had reached the red highway to Chiaroscuro when the Grey Rider found them. In that moment, in full view of the Grey Rider and his beloved, Abe exalted. Filled with a storm of new-born energy, Abe challenged the Grey Rider, and the two fought for a full day. In the end, experience won out, and the Rider cut Abe down. For reasons unknown, he spared Abe's life, but took Carisel with him back to the Thousand fortresses of the Underworld. Weeks later, Abe was discovered wondering in the desert by an associate of Tamuz and was brought back to Chiaroscuro, where Tamuz himself inducted him into the Changing Moon Caste. For several years, Abe worked as ambassador, openly for the Tri-Khan, and behind the scenes, for the Thousand Streams River project, slowly acquiring resources, allies, and experience. Along the way, he met a Solar called the Mufti of the Teachings of Dawn, who had also been bested and spared by the Grey Rider. Together, along with a small band of loyal Delzhan warriors, they infiltrated the Underworld. The expedition, however, met with disaster in the form a patrolling army of the First and Forsaken Lion. The Mufti of the Teachings of Dawn was slain, but once again, for reasons unknown, the Abyssal forces spared Abe Tavin, and he escaped back to the land of the living. Now, Abe continues his ambassadorial duties, but between negotiating trade deals and promoting obscure tribes, he plans for a second invasion of the Underworld, convinced that Carisel is still alive and waiting for him.
