Elmer frowns, "Very well.. I might as well tell you all.. I was born in Heuneburg. This is near Hundersingen, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. My name was Korath. We were a Celtic, Germanic people, though years would sunder us.. I was born in the year 602 Before the Christian era. My family are Lanthanites. Do you know of them? I do not know if your earth had them...." 

"Lanthanites. Right. I have heard of them. But they were thought to be but a fictional race on my world." Rafe replies.

"I traveled, out of necessity. Lives were short but the ones who grew old would recognize me. so I disappeared every so often. I never had children. I don't know why. Other Lanthaites i met had. I fought for Alexander till he reached Taxila. That's when the troops almost rebelled. They went back. I slipped out and went east. I was in China by 300 BC. I returned and saw Egypt.. I settled in Tuscany around 100bc. Eventually was in Rome. As a soldier it was easy to joined the Legions if you knew how. I went with Ceaser to Gaul and loved the country like it was my home. I served Emperors, managing to stay away from fighting in Germany. I spent a century in the British isles . Fought in the Arenas around the Empire. Staying away from Rome. The Arenas of Ang Ri felt like home to me but they were somehow more like the bare knuckles fighting of the 1700s... Still." 

"Years come and go. I lived many lives in Gaul. Was a Knight many times, a baron a few. A duke for a short time. I fought in Charlemagne's wars, though I only met him a few times. Above my station. I went to England under the spell of William, another Lanthanite. He had his ideology as well. But he was getting old in the eyes of others, so was I . So we left. Eventually he and I found our way to Constantinople. Most beautiful city in the world.. When the crusaders came I went with them. William went north. I lived in Jerusalem till the last Christian was chased out of Acre. Around then i became a sailor for a few centuries." 

"It was a bad time to stay in Europe. The plague was everywhere. We knew later that the fleas from the ships brought it but it spread like mad. madness followed. A bad time to be anywhere in Europe. I traveled it. I got sick once. Badly. I was hoping to die. But i recovered. I went where wars were. I trafficked in treasures. Once there was a vast horde. But leave a place long enough and someone robs it. I rarely had much money after that. 

RAFE: "Must have been difficult having to disappear every few decades and start a Life Anew somewhere else as someone else. Probably a lot easier to do back in the ancient times. Be a lot harder to do on a modern earth with technology and record-keeping and such." 

"So, Nazi, USMC then Alamond? How did that all happen?" 

ELMER: "After the first war in the teens, Germany was under much turmoil. I spent most of the 20s in The United States. I raced cars and ran bootleg booze. Smuggled. I flew in the war so i was able to fly booze over the border. My nautical knowledge was helpful. But i went to Germany in 1929. The music was amazing. There was a great music scene. But the nazis were growing. I joined a group that tried to convince the people against them. Then afterwards.. well. THe best way to fight them was join them. I did. It is often forgotten that the Germans hated the Russians far more then anyone else. I spent most my war years fighting Russians. Oh, i was with Erwin in the desert. and then...I helped him escape in '44. I was in Stalingrad. Brutal. "

"At the end of the war I was fighting Russians. It was clear they were winning so I went west. While i was traveling i came across a squad of marines. They were dead and i scavanged them for food in cigarettes. One of them was shockingly like me in facial features. so..I scavanged his identity. I fought as a marine then till the end of the war. After the war i returned to find that Elmer Frisk had no family. So i traveled. I wound up in North Dakota. Found a place to settle for awhile. Met people. Relaxed. I became a Freemason."

Rafe shakes his head. "What the fuck is with me constantly running across North Dakota Freemasons. Gotta be tied into my Destiny somehow." Rafe shakes his head. "So, how did you get off of the Earth World?" 

ELMER: "You know of them?" 

RAFE: "Yeah, long story. Ties into an Amberite named Relmopator and some nasty Dufiro. Story for another time. Please, continue." 

ELMER: "I didn't think much of it. I've been alive for a long time and saw very few magicians. I spoke with a dozen Lanathites and they said the same. Some Sufis, some Tibetan monks. A few Franciscan Monks. The Albigensian. Some Bohemians. Some ritualists. But no real magic. No explanations of the Lanthites. So when I graduated to 33゜I was brought into real rituals. By then i was used to rituals. Freemasons are big on them. I was not prepared for one to work." 

RAFE: "Lemme guess, The Freemasons you hooked up with somehow got their hands on real magic, didn't they? Yeah, that's definitely the North Dakota Freemasons I know about.”

"So, a Freemason ritual worked, unexpectedly, and brought you to Alamond? At which time you worked for some clowns doing some wet work, then stumbled across me in mine and came to work for us. Helluva story, Elmer. Helluva story." Rafe raises his glass to Elmer then takes a drink. "Glad we got that all out in the open now. And damn glad to have you on my crew." 

ELMER: "As am I, ''Harjabaz''."
