== Notes == When asked about his Hermetic name, Abu Yusuf replies: "In my culture, Abu Yusuf is a common name for wise men. But--it is only half a name. True wise men have another name as well. With this name, a man who speaks of me with scorn may say, 'Look at his arrogance--he gives himself the name of all wise men, because he considers himself chief among them'. In this way, he gives me power. A man who views me with favor might say, rather, 'Abu Yusuf knows that a man's wisdom is never complete--therefore he shows himself with this name still standing before the doors that lead to wisdom, unsure if he has entered.' And so he reminds me to be humble. Either of these is acceptable to me."
