== Background == She used to be a regular detective. During a raid on a suspected human trafficking operation Lex saved the lives of two fellow officers from an incendiary booby trap, but in the process took the brunt of the explosion and the resulting fire herself. Miraculously, the paramedics managed to scrape together enough of her to hook up to life support. She spent months in a coma while her superiors sorted the paperwork, weighed their options and made arrangements. Finally, in consideration of her outstanding performance and dedication, they had her woken up just long enough to offer her a choice: she could retire now with full benefits and medical compensation, for what good that would do to a bedridden torso... or she could volunteer to receive a full suite of experimental prostheses and bionic enhancements and rejoin the force as part of a newly established special unit. No surprise, she's back on the job. Or at least some of her. Her eyes and both arms are prosthetic replacements, packed full of state-of-the-art optics and the heaviest actuators her reinforced skeleton can withstand. Her vital organs are mostly original, kept somewhat intact by her body armor, save for a boatload of synthetic lung tissue. Her skin is entirely synthetic; the extent and severity of her burns were such that the doctors thought it better to just replace it all rather than try to save the few patches left, which also allowed them to interlace it with a low-profile reactive armor material. She doesn't get bruises anymore, the dilatant-filled fullerene mesh just shows through where it gets hardened by impacts and breaks through the ablative surface layer. Lex was always quite driven in her job, but increasingly the job seems to be all there is to her. She spends her free time training, studying, working on her bionics... or just working. There's less and less time for the few close friends and family she ever had, save for her brother who forcefully stays in contact. Her apartment is a storage unit with amenities. None of this is healthy, of course, but she was always a stoic hard-ass to begin with and keeps passing psych eval because whatever issues she's not dealing with, it doesn't seem to affect her judgement or performance on duty... so far...
