=Aspects= ==High Concept: Kleinberg Wunderkind== A scion of the famous Kleinberg family, blacksmiths and engineers, who were among the first to discover and develop ways of working with adamantine. For three generations now they have created some of the most widely lauded weapons in the known world such as the great scythe Obsidian Reaper, or the infamous Meteor Tempest. Valeria was born into the family tradition, and labeled a prodigy in the art at a young age. But she was always dissatisfied with the idea of someone else using the weapons she designed. She would take every opportunity she could to field-test the equipment she helped design, and ultimately signed on as a hunter. Her family is torn between worrying about her safety, sorry to lose her evident genius, and glad to see her go because... Invoke for: Anything to do with machinery or weapons. Compel for: Family obligations, high expectations. ==Trouble: Form Over Function== ...Valeria is, unless strictly supervised, incapable of designing a weapon without at least one unnecessarily complicated moving part that makes it impossible for anyone but her to wield it, and which serves no actual useful purpose. Indeed, as a general rule, whenever given the choice of accomplishing a goal in a simple and straightforward fashion and accomplishing it in a roundabout, inefficient but flashy way, Valeria will choose the latter almost every time. On a field test for one of the latest Kleinberg designs (with Valeria insisting on tagging along at age of 14), they were unexpectedly attacked by a kaiju, and the tester was crushed. Valeria saved the day, partly by wielding the weapon with surprising skill (she had been practicing), and partly by driving away the monster by using enough explosives to level a small village. Unfortunately she did, in the process, level a small village. Fortunately, no one was hurt (by the bombs, the kaiju was another matter), but Valeria was urged to be more careful in her liberal use of demolitions. A piece of advice that she has thus far mostly failed to take to heart. The incident cemented in her once and for all the desire to be a hunter. Invoke for: Operating at the seat of her pants or coming up with plans crazy enough to work Compel for: Whenever her preference for flash over substance causes things to go south or her to make stupid decisions ==First Adventure: Experimental Designs== When she was still in training, Valeria continued field-testing Kleinberg designs when she could, getting in some additional training, helping out the family, and using the data to improve Hekatonkheir all at the same time. Valeria is usually carrying one or more of these designs at all times, even now, as well as some more personal experiments. Being prototypes, they have a tendency to fail, break, or, worse, complicate the situation. She usually, also, cribs anything she finds useful to apply it to her own ends. For instance, one of the things that she tested was a system for ensuring that one's weapon never got disarmed. In true Valeria fashion, she applied that piece of technology...to her hat. So how is it that her hat stays on, even though she is often found flying through the air on the aftershocks of her own explosions? ''Magnets.'' Invoke for: Having a useful piece of experimental technology on hand. Compel to: Said technology going haywire, as prototypes do. ==Crossing Paths: Relentlessly Cheerful== On her first training mission, Valeria was assigned to work with one Elspeth Trelawney. It was not a happy partnership; Elspeth was boosy and controlling, overconfident, and took things way, way too seriously. What is the point of using cool weapons to fight giant monsters if you're not going to have fun doing it?? You have to feel sorry for Cantana Ivory, really. Invoke for: remaining cheerful and upbeat in extreme circumstances, getting along with people Compel for: not taking thing as seriously as she should, rubbing certain people (like, say, Elspeth...) the wrong way ==Crossing Paths Again: Obsessed with Lost Technology== When Valeria first met Iris, she fell in love at first sight. With the Atlas Hands. Her curiosity led her to interact with the other girl hopes of getting a closer look, but against all odds the two struck up an unlikely friendship. Iris is as detached and emotionless around Valeria as she is around anyone else, but Val doesn't seem to mind. Conversely, Iris doesn't seem to object to Valeria's presence. And Valeria is the only person so far to have gleaned some insight into how the Atlas Hands work - possibly enough to repair some part if they get broken. Other parts, though, are still a black box to her. Invoke for: anything to do with pre-kaiju or advanced technology Compel for: when her obsession causes her to make unwise decisions
