=Cort Masterson=

== Background ==

Cort Masterson is a true son of Cale's World. He comes from a family which was well-off before the Imperium came, and grew quickly prosperous afterwards. Many of his relatives have secured honorable positions in the Imperium's great administration network. Cort himself was given the opportunity to train with the Adeptus Administratum. But it was not to be for Cort - after only a few years with the Administratum, he was tapped for a more 'noble' duty and was shipped off to train with what was destined to become the Calean 1st Rifles. This was a shattering blow to Cort, who had already begun planning a life of relative ease, safely ensconced behind stacks of paperwork for the remainder of his days.

But he thrived with the 1st Rifles. His knowledge of the inner workings of the Adeptus Administratum meant that he knew how to navigate the complex logistical network of the Departmento Munitorium, and his bunkmates found themselves in a steady supply of lho-sticks and high-provender rations. And while many other members of the 1st Rifles found the presence of the film crews and propagandists offputting or disturbing, Cort has seen only opportunities. The Departmento Munitorium, for whatever reason, has placed a high priority on the safety and well-being of those film crews, and that has meant extra supply lines, which Cort has been happy to take advantage of.

Cort can often be found in his "office," which is a makeshift room created from a careful arrangement of supply crates, stacked in such a way as to create a little room free from prying eyes. This is where he keeps the items he has requisitioned or bartered for.

Cort's comrade is a gloomy man named Jace Fortuna. Jace is convinced that the entire regiment will be wiped out in their first off-world engagement, and has already sent letters to his family members with funerary instructions. But Jace still enjoys lho and alcohol, and so the two have struck up a mutually beneficial friendship.
