==Warbands== Each Main military force is called a '''''Line'''''. The Warbands are the Fourth Line. The Warband Line is unusual in that it has a Liaison to the General Staff not Line Field Marshal or leader. The Warbands often have origins in shadow and are sponsored by royals and nobles into the service of Amber. The details of this service is vastly different. ===Red Wolves=== A legendary cavalry band once led by Prince Julian and since frequently including the presence of nobles and royals of many realms. Service in the Red Wolves is invitational and once a member the individual is expected to leave other considerations aside in favor of service to Amber. An "A Irregular Cavalry" unit that frequently acts as skirmishers and cavalry screens. Excellent archers and javliners Not officially part of the Rangers of Arden, many Red Wolves have served with the Rangers for a time. Ranger members who joined the Red Wolves were more skilled at traditional military actions then woodland defenses. The Red Wolves split in half when Prince Julian left Arden. Half followed him to [[Adagalasck]] *Irregular A Medium Cavalry. Horsebowman. ===Wild Weasels=== One of Benedict's personal cadre of warbands. *Regular "A" Medium Infantry Sword & Buckler "Wild Weasels" The Wild Weasels are commanded by Duke Cogswell Mal at Riess[[https://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Court_of_Amber#Cogswell_Mal_At_Riess]] ===The Varmil=== A heavy shield wall unit. Veteran warriors from many Golden Circle worlds *Regular A Heavy Infantry. Tall Scutums & shortsword. Pilum. Most carry bows for volley fire. Based in Diaga they recruit members from any Golden Circle world. They also recruit heavily among the Amber military. Often these soldiers are given leave from other military units to serve a 5 year term in the Varmil. After their term they have gained valuable experience that they can share with their native units. ===Bushiro=== Bushirese: A force originally assembled by Benedict during his travels. He spent time in Japanese worlds and similar shadows and assembled samurai warriors of legendary prowess. In time they aged, retired, raised families in shadows near Amber and otherwise became assimilated into the Amber military. The Bushiro now is a repository of the members of the Bushirese who have served at least 10 years as members of the regular Amber military and distinguished themselves in battle. Currently 5000 strong with many veterans of the Black Road War. *Regular A Medium Infantry. *Regular A Medium Cavalry ===''' The Red Gasrak'''=== The Red Gasrak is a collection of warbands from the [[Rabsan]] shadows. The weapon mix may vary but the general description is a warband of 50 warriors comprised of different warring groups. Bands are usually assembled to represent a particular weapon type;cavalry, Pike, Archers, paired knives, Shield Walls. For example: A warrior will declare he is forming a band for service in the Red Gasrak and he or his nation will sponsor it. They announce that it will be a longbow band. Word is spread and 50 warriors arrive and sign the accords. They arrive essentially without arms but with personal equipment. The band sponsor provides weapons, sidearms, uniform for casual and military wear, armor, and medical supplies for each warrior. They provide a logistical team that may be as large as the warrior band, also comprised of servants, grooms, medics, and others doing their own service in the Red Gasrak. Having served in the Red Gasrak is a point of pride for warriors of all the nations of Rabsan. To display the Red Gasrak cord shows that the warrior served a term of 20 years in the service of Amber and as a member of the Red Gasrak and was discharged honorably. This means they did not accrue enough disciplinary issues to be discharged dishonorably. Since the bands are comprised of warring members it is important that they served 20 years with soldiers that at home they might be mortal enemies with. This has led to members of particular bands being friends, comrades and owing honor debts to their normal foes. Benedict respects the Red Gasrak but rarely places it in the most dangerous spot in a battle line since they have a history of discipline problems among themselves and with other units. Unit designations vary from band to band. However they are almost always rated as "B" grade units. ==='''Fire Dancers'''=== ==='''[[Kolvir Musketeers]]'''=== This is a new unit formed in 5286 by King Random as a special cadre of troops for his personal assignment. Credentials for membership in the unit seem to be the king's whim but members are given highly prized trainings upon inclusion. ==='''The Ansamble'''=== The Ansamble is a Warband that comes at the call of Amber but otherwise is a ravager band of cutthroats. Assembled of small groups from across shadow the Jeweled Road has allowed this disorganized collection of people to come together under a few specific rules. The Ansamble developed after the Black Road War out of veterand from many shadows. The main rule is that all conflicts are set aside if Amber calls upon them. Many nobles and royals secretly support different groups. (Consider the warband in Flesh and Blood to be a general look and behavior of the individual groups in the Ansamble[[https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMjAzOTU2MzY5N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwOTE4NjczNA@@._V1_.jpg]]) The wide diversity of members makes grading the Ansamble difficult. In general the warbands would be considered ''Irregulars'' despite some groups behaving like ''Regular'' units. The mixture of cavalry and infantry makes it impossible to specify that dynamic. Most members are professional enough to have chosen this lifestyle and that tends to rank them as ''B'' for their fighting abilities while different bands might have better or worse fighters. Many warbands center around a single leader who might be of ''A'' skilled in fighting and the others ranked lower depending on their training. Reasonably violent and dangerous, they are distrusted by the rest of the military. Despite that individual warbands might have powerful protectors. The use of ''"Charge Coins"'' for acknowledging patrons.
