===Settlement=== New America is a colony, first settled in 2125 mostly by disgruntled Americans, believing their government was too corrupt and wishing to start again on a new world. * Population: 115,000 * Technology Level: 10 * Control Rating: 4 (Controlled) * Economic Situation: Average * Starport: Class II Frontier * Known Installations: Nature Preserve, Small Patrol Base * Trade Codes: Agricultural, Non-Industrial The colony has a representative democracy. At the top is the President and his Advisory Board, appointed into power by the other two branches of government, subject to a hearing by the other branch. The other two branches are Congress and the Senate acting as legislative councils; and the Supreme Court a small council of 6. The two lower branches are appointed via election, the Senate and Congress having fixed terms (Senate slightly longer) and SC elections happening when they come up. However, only those born on the planet can vote for these two. Not that that matters, as immigration is quick here. Perhaps the most shocking thing about the planet is its lack of welfare and social security, spending only the bare minimum. People are encouraged to spend, save and care for themselves, and extend that to those they care about. Most spending goes toward maintaining the system's defence force. The colony is known for its spectacular gemstones, allowed to be under pressure for millions of years, not moving thanks to the lack of geologic movement. From its life forms, the colonists have found its plantlife makes good pharmaceuticals and, as mentioned above, a type of fish-analogue is exported to other systems for food.
