Cecilia is the youngest doctor Brazil ever had. She was never given an official license to practice medicine but by the age of 16 was running a back-alley clinic with a success rate as good as any of the surrounding hospitals. On the side she also ran a biological lab. She was working on genetically engineering spiders to create spidersilk bandages when one of the specimens escaped and bit her. It gave her the ability to shoot webs out of her hands as well the strength and resilience of a spider. 

She didn't want to become a hero and tried to live her life as she had before. It all came crashing down when a gang leader came in with multiple gunshots. Cecilia secretly called the police and that led to a terrible shoot-out that left her kindly aunt Maria dead. Bruce Wayne stepped in afterwards and with his clout got her off of the practicing without a license charge and brought her to his school. The whole affair has Cecilia more driven than ever to help but she's torn between helping as a doctor, as a researcher and as a super-hero.
