First born son of Septimus de Lucian, and great-grandson of Primus Mortimer de Lucian known, the Arch Alchemist and Master Mage-Smith of legend. Octavian grew up in what used to be well respected family, his mother having died in childbirth and most of the family fortunes having been squandered by his Grand father Octavian watched as his father's mental health deterorated, and his step-mother gained more and more control over the family. 
Octavians father became increasingly obessed with regaining their wealth, gambeling greater and greater amounts of their money on strange and obscure experiments. In his final days, Septimus de Lucian became increasingly obessed with a device that his own grandfather created known as The stone of the philsopers, a device that would allow him to regain their fortunes and therefore their honour.
Mere days before the story begins, Septimus de Lucian passed away from a heart attack, leaving his notes unfinished, his first born son, now no longer the Heir to the fortunes ( his half-brother Tarram have made the heir by his stepmother as his 'fathers dying wish') has taken up his fathers quest, however, he is taking his quest far more cautiously than his late father did.
