A crazy cousin decided that the only way for House Karjotas to reclaim its former glory is to make sure that they're in charge. And the way to do that is to murder their way up the chain of sucession. Janus just had the misfortune to be on the wrong side in relation to crazy cousin, and after surviving one attempt on his life, decided it was time to leave Medusa.

(If it's okay with Scarik I figure he found old contracts between his house and the Banain dynasty and used those to get into post on the Alleged Victory? - possibly the contracts date from before the fall of one or both of their houses, so neither side is getting exactly what they expect.)

The trials and tribulations step was originally '''Dark Voyage''', which was used as the hook to explain a fairly down and out Navigator turning up on a nice prestigious ship, but may change that as that's no longer the case.
