='''Background and Notes'''= *Algie comes from a well to do Anglo-Australian family. His Father is a local Australian politician and owner of a large cattle station in North Western Australia. His Mothers family are from the Bahamas, where Algie lived for a while post WWI. *During the War he served with No1 Squadron in Egypt, later to be called No67 and saw action in the Palestine campaign. He was badly injured when his plane was shot down and still walks with a slight limp . The associated pain leads to binges on local opium. *Immediately after the War he worked for Aeromarine, flying the Miami to Bimini route. He bought one of their old planes a Curtiss F-5L seaplane /Aeromarine 75(cargo or 12-14 passengers)and decided to set himself up in business freighting cargoes. First he ran a few jobs around the Middle East for his brother Captain ‘Blue’ Carmichael but ended back in Australia based in Darwin. His brother (an exploration facilitator) then got a few jobs based from Shanghai setting up expeditions into the interior. *So now Algie has been in Shanghai for 10 years and has set up a fairly successful freighting business; Shanghai Freight (on and above the water). The major employers being The KMT and The Green Gang, but he will happily work for who ever has cash. Jobs tend to entail speedy deliveries, gun running and carrying people. It’s been a bit quiet recently due to problems with a certain Major in the KMT. Has a few official 'jobs': easy mail runs to out lying areas, taxi service for officials, supply runs etc, which provide cover for his less salubrious endeavors and a steady income to cover costs and wages. *He's now looking for new crew members due to his previous mechanic and Co- pilot both mysteriously disappearing. *Extensive contacts have been made over the years within the government, military and criminal fraternity. Though these dodgy dealings are now through '''Du Yueshang''' and his Green Gang, much to the annoyance of other gangs, river pirates and warlords. *Algie is on nodding acquaintances with several German officers from his partying around town. Eg '''Ulbrecht von Bernhard''' and his aide de camp '''Vladislav Simonov''' *Recently plucked '''Sam Norris''' out of the drink after a vicious storm. *Romantically he is involved with a local Chinese girl '''Zheng Zhang''', sister of one of the local gang boys. Unfortunately '''Major Wu Lee''' of the KMT is also vying for her attention, which has led to some recent strife. Nights are spent frequenting many of the city’s Bordello’s and clubs. It was at one particular jazz club that he heard '''Edie''' sing and instantly fell for her looks and charm. *Collector of pornographic Lianhuanhua books *Smokes Golden Arrow cigarettes and Murads. '''Aims''' *Get the girl(s) *Have as much fun as possible *Buy a PBY Seaplane *Expand his business without getting killed *Eventually make the big score and retire to a tropical island *Find some business partners who wont kill him/get him killed. '''Shanghai Freight.''' Rents a Godown/hanger down by the docks off Broadway, west of the waterworks. Far enough away not to attract to much attention when he flies in and out. Contains an office cum Bedroom, and work area Pays the green gang for protection. He has a Chinese manservant: ''''Fred' Yao-Ming''', who cooks and keeps the place clean. His family live out the back of the Gowdown. Does a few official mail runs. Bribes the River Police’s Anti-Smuggling Squad to keep away. For more formal times he has a room at the Shanghai club. *Dog called '''Wombat'''
