====Background==== The youngest of five children of a moderately prosperous noble family of Desolace, Octavius was always left on the edges of things. The firstborn, naturally, was the one groomed to continue the family, the second and third eldest of his sisters were sent to the Imperial Guard, and the fourth to the Ecclesiarchy. Essentially a spare, just in case disaster struck all four of his sisters, Octavius was left mostly to his own devices with the silent understanding that he wouldn't embarrass the family and they would not impose too heavily upon him There were, after all, plenty of ways that he could be married off, but those suggestions were kept short of orders as Octavius turned to the vast Administratum offices and put his mind towards regulating the trade that flowed in and out of his homeworld. Until he discovered certain irregularities and, when the local enforcers refused to act without more justification, took it upon himself to investigate those matters on his own. He failed but, rather than be killed immediately, he was kept imprisoned and learned much, although part of him wished that he hadn't. Managing eventually to escape, instead of simply alerting the authorities he instead joined the assault, using what he had learned to corner and destroy the cult. While that would have been the end of it, his knowledge had attracted some attention and he was given the choice of putting his knowledge and mind to the service of the Inquisition, or having his brain (and the heresies it had been exposed to) spread across the nearest wall. He had always been the smart one, so there was really only one choice.
