==Character Backstory==
Howard Lam and Lew Davis were marine biologists-- researchers into the amazing world at the ocean's depths. They had a remarkable talent for finding strange and dangerous things on the seabed, and then they found their strangest discovery to date-- in the ruins of a destroyed, sunken city, a strange casket, shaped like an intricately-carved egg-- and it was emitting heat, and had some kind of electrical charge. They took it in, and it opened at their touch, revealing a strange infant-- a little girl with a long, finned tail instead of legs.

Being adventurous types, they decided that the only reasonable thing to do was to raise the girl as their own, and so they adopted her using a careful program of outright lies and forged paperwork. She grew up quickly (as all children seem to), and loved her fathers, learning from them, joining in their research, swimming alongside their diving bell, being the flower girl at their wedding, and so on. And then, after many years, Howie and Lew made their most impressive discovery yet!

The structure was unusual, being formed of gigantic blocks of stone assembled at odd, some would say impossible angles, but it revealed itself as artificial when it opened up, and the gigantic figure emerged. It was a strange, gelatinous being, incredibly large, a strange mixture of cephalopod, dragon and human, and it was unexpectedly free, and it was advancing directly at the research ship they were all on!

And that was when Thetis first manifested her powers, a gigantic shape of water manifesting around her as she charged the eldritch monstrosity! After several mighty blows to the center of its tentacled head, the being retreated, and Thetis realized that she had a power she'd never imagined. After this, there was no choice-- she had to use her powers to help humanity. What else could she do?

Personality: Thetis is sunny, bright, friendly, and comes across as a bit naive. She's certainly intellectual, and a little bit nerdy, but mostly, she's a bundle of love and enthusiasm.

Appearance: Thetis is a mermaid, of course. She's got pale pink-grey skin, large black eyes, long white hair, and no legs, instead possessing a long, serpentine tail with several small fins here and there on it. Her tail is not scaled or marked in any way, and while she does have gill slits, they are on her ribcage, and not at all obvious to the observer.
