== Background == David Washington's daddy always cursed him for being the shiftless layabout he was, saying things might have changed in this country but boys like him still needed to work for a living. David just wanted to enjoy his newfound freedom, however, and he found every excuse he could to avoid actual work. When his parents found out he was running games on their neighbours, they booted him out at the tender age of 17. Undeterred, David travelled around and ran cons as he did so. He fell in with some bad crowds, but a combination of luck and cunning got him out in one piece every time. Until the day he met Valerie Chilton, a Mad Scientist working on longevity treatments. She offered him good pay for being a test subject, which sounded like an easy deal to David. The actual tests soon changed his mind. She twisted him, transformed him, until he felt like a stranger in his own body. After she was done working her science upon him she paid him duly, and then sent him on his way. Feeling repulsed by his own flesh, David came to an epiphany of sorts, and he finally appreciated what his old man had been trying to teach him all those years ago. Now he's trying to go on the straight and narrow, but when you've got the skillset he does it's often easier to fall back on bad habits. He's gotten word that an old colleague of his, Bill Keely, is having trouble in a town called Coffin Rock. David and Bill haven't had the easiest relationship, but he feels he owes the old coot so off he goes to bail him out of trouble.
