== Background == Sevek was born and raised on a small farm that served as the agricultural supply center for the T'Lem Monastery. Although the hope had been that he would continue on at the agricultural center, it was clear to his family that Sevek's mind was one for the stars. Sevek underwent the kolinahr as a way to prepare for his life in Starfleet, and the belief weas that he would carry on there as a science officer.
Sevek's career at Starfleet Academy took a turn, however, as his aptitudes placed him on the Command track, something that he hadn't initially expected but a path he was willing to take, reasoning that there had been some part of his mind that had been neglected in the farm life and was needing to have actualization. Sevek took well to the Command track of the Academy, becoming well-versed in the qualities of command and leading others by the level-headed example that he set for his fellow cadets.
Upon graduating, Sevek's career continued along its expected track. Those watching his career were sure that he would be in command of his own starship in due time, and that he would be an excellent Captain. He demonstrated a quick mind in a crisis and his calm and logical thinking was something that came across as inspiring to others rather than off putting. It was during this early career, on board the USS Yucatan, that Sevek made the acquaintance of Lt Cdr. Leonardo Aguila. Aguila became a good friend to Sevek and the two of them were often placed on Away Missions due to the increasing camaraderie that they had.
On one of these Away Missions, the situation turned violent. The team had been tasked with gathering intelligence along the Cardassian border and ran afoul of a squad of Cardassian soldiers. In the attack, Aguila froze up, panicking and unable to act. Sevek quickly stepped into the role of commander of the mission and led the team to safety, and they were able to evacuate with a partial success in objectives. Aguila transferred from the Yucatan soon after, feeling like he was unable to serve and that his path was leading him elsewhere. Logically, Sevek knew that this was an acceptable move for his friend and that there should be no shame in the change, but there was a part of him that questioned the Human's outlook.
When war broke out with the Dominion, Sevek was a command officer on board the Yucatan which had been attached to the Seventh Fleet, part of the attack at the Tyra system. The battle was a disaster for the Alliance, with almost the entirety of the Fleet destroyed or irreparably damaged. The Yucatan was one of the 14 ships out of a fleet of 112 that survived, albeit heavily damaged. During the battle, Sevek was part of the coordination of damage control teams when he was pinned under wreckage and unable to save his immediate colleagues from an encroaching fire. Taking a phaser, Sevek amputated his pinned arm and was able to get his crewmates to safety, but the experience cost him. The arm was replaced with a prosthetic easily enough, but the mental toll of the experience has proven to be harder to repair. Sevek has been unable to fall back on the kolihnar training that had guided him through his career and life. Sevek spent the rest of the war recovering physically from the injuries that he received. The mental injuries that had come from the war have proven more tenacious, however.
The posting to the Hyperion was requested by Sevek, as he believed the quiter, research based, mission would be something that could help.
