Because Aincumis didn't make it clear in his first post, further explanation. When you reach the totemic anima banner level you have a choice of either spending a WP to resist the immersion or going with it. If you go with it, your body transforms and your mind alters to match your new persona. If you act out of character for your anima you may have to spend a WP point. As soon as you go totemic your anima replenishes to full, and remains that way until you come out of it ("[http://forum.rpg.net/showpost.php?p=12771432&postcount=523 Refills to full whenever your DV refreshes]"). That means in totemic form all Exalts have infinite essence. Sort of a big point to not make clear I guess. As soon as you come out of it (in 1 scene max) you regain all of your health levels as your anima recreates a human body from your memory. You cannot go totemic two scenes in a row.
