John attempts to smile often, driving his attitude to change to meet behaviour. Sometimes it comes easily; when he's talking to Mary or working out. He's gotten to the point that he can chat a bit with nearly anyone he meets, as long as they don't threaten Mary. Standing just over two meters and looking like the entire hundred odd kilos are nothing but packed muscle, John moves with grace and confidence. He opens the door for Mary and made her should-be-ex-husband wet his pants just by looking at him.

Obviously John has a military background but he doesn't speak of it to anyone besides Mary. She doesn't speak about it to anyone else. She is as protective of him as he is of her and they seem quite happily content with each other. However, when he carries a customized Gauss LMG like it's a carbine, he seems to know which end is which. John's behaviour seems to say he's been on the ground and on ships and comfortable with both.

Okay, I think John and Mary are mostly done. The char sheet I linked to you and Mary's service rolls are dated 4 years prior to the game start. Not sure if you want to do anything with/for them since they mustered out at 30.

The story is that Mary's slime-ball husband and she spent her 20 KCr mustering out money on the store and setting up business. He was useless and they didn't do well as a couple or as business people. She bought his half with the last of her savings and his dad tried to take over the town. John stood with her and they pushed back, leaving her to do what she could with the business and a bunch of damaged property owned by the father-in-law.

In the four or so years they have known each other Mary has gotten back into engineering, She machines things to last as long as possible and is a craftsman at heart. There is a Craftsman "career" in T5 but much of it makes little sense. Since she's an engineer and her skill is 4 already, that seemed enough.

John knows weapons and Mary has rebuilt some things with him. He's very supportive of her and sees her creativity as a way to wash his own soul. His Gauss LMG is her creation, strapped on the mount. Not sure of any game mechanics difference but very well engineered for use and rough abuse. They have funds but no numbers, up to you. Not sure what gear they have, up to you as well. They mostly show up with skills and attitude.  :)
