Opto came from a small community somewhere on the edges of civilization. He was shunned as a child because of his mutant deformities, but was cared for by the village 'witch', who taught him much about the world. Although short of stature and physically weak, he is tough-minded and intelligent. He tries to solve his problems by understanding and manipulating the forces around him. As his mutant powers of illusion developed, those became the most powerful tool in his arsenal of tricks. He has come to a rather odd point of view: the world is trapped in delusion. People are burdened by false beliefs, and make bad choices, leading to strife and suffering. He desires to use his powers to penetrate the delusion in the world and reveal the truth, believing that once people understand the real world, they will make better choices. He sees the powerful artifacts of the Demiurge as pieces of truth, wrapped in delusion. He seeks these artifacts himself to learn more about the truth, and to help others who take and wield them to make good choices about how they use their power.
