=Background=

Being a young confessor of only 19 years, you have only recently graduated from the Bilani Ecclesiarchy's seminary and so you have recently started upon the field experience part of your training. You were unsurprised but still disappointed to find yourself assigned to a remote rural parish - after all on this planet, that is the norm. But you would still have rather joined one of the cathedrals in the city!

And so you found yourself in Elgara County, travelling between the villages to administer confession.

But during your short time here, you have become very aware that something is amiss. One agricultural family, the Tanakans seem ridiculously rich and powerful compared to everyone else whom they hold in debt and this is largely due to the Tanakan crops being of far greater quality than anyone else's. Plus it seems to have got to the stage where the Tanakans can do anything they want including imposing their own justice - which basically seems to amount to everyone else taking the flak for the Tanakan sins.

You have come to this particular village because you heard that young Hoakin Gerrult had been accusing of damaging Tanakan crops. You had taken confession from the man and he had denied any wrongdoing. But he did claim to have seen some kind of 'alien' in the Tanakan wheat fields. You wondered if the man was being set up to hang as a means of discrediting and silencing him. But before you could do anything else, the village priest Ulkion Lowe, whom you suspect to be very pally with the Tanakans took Hoakin away and forbade you from speaking to him again. And now just a few hours later, the man was taken to the gallows to hang.
