The Black Monolith clan are a middle status clan found all over the empire. They follow the three gods of the Dark Trinity, Hru'u, Ksarul and Sarku. Their Tumissa clanhouse is mainly engaged in the manufacture and trade of Mash brandy, the higher lineage types doing the trading, the lower lineages working in the distillery just outside town. Most of the Dark Monoliths in Tumissa are followers of Ksarul and a fair number are involved in the temple and the Palace of the Realm. The clan has clanhouses throughout the surrounding area - they own no Mash orchards themselves, but do have distilleries worked by their lower lineages in the Mash growing districts. Many of these rural Black Monoliths are Sarku worshippers, and evenly divided between Ito loyalists and those who wish the Ito would just fade away and stop giving loyal Sarku-ites a bad name. They supported Dhich'une, of course, but when thing looked bad for his faction the Tumissa clanhouse switched alleigance to the Ksarul temple and supported the idea of a preists council to rule the city until order was restored, even if it meant cooperating with the Thumis temple. The Black Monoliths are quite dedicated to their religion, and are scornful of Thumis and the other Stability gods. The Black Monolith have close connections with the Turning Wheel, who do their transport, and the [[Black Hand]], who make their brandy bottles.
