Jabari was a member of the Priest-Adepts of Jarzon. He was a diligent investigator for the Church of the Pure Light, ferreting out heresy, deviant behavior, and other crimes against society and the church. A firm believer in traditional social order, Jabari pursued his investigations with vigor, confident in the belief that he helped to stave off the encroachment of chaos and corruption.

This lasted until Jabari discovered that his younger brother had secretly taken a male lover. Jabari and his brother had always been close, and his brother was a pillar of the community, so his liasons came as a tremendous shock to Jabari. Jabari exposed his brother's indiscretions as befitting any right-thinking Priest-Adept, and his brother became a shunned outcast of Jarzoni society.

But Jabari couldn't reconcile his knowledge of his brother as kind, compassionate, productive member of society with the image the Church of the Pure Light promulgated about those who sought same-sex relationships. As the cognitive dissonance deepened, Jabari began to question more of his teachings. He read heretical texts he had previously simply burned out-of-hand, and began to feel stirrings of magical ability which he pursued in secret. He also surreptitiously re-established contact with his brother, asking forgiveness.

His brother now lived in Aldis. Abandoning his former life, Jabari followed him. Jabari has concluded that the Church of the Pure Light is incorrect in its persecution of Aldean peoples on racial and sexual grounds, and is trying to embrace the Aldinean philosophy. It's slow going, however, since one does not easily abandon a lifetime's worth of culturally ingrained prejudice.

Jabari has found his way to Kern and has hooked up with the resistance. He considers it part of his penance. One day he will be able to stand before his brother without shame, knowing that the good he has done in the world has finally outweighed the evil.
