This meant that after the Bliss hit, the only family she had left was her cousin Alex ''((OOC: different from the Alex in the resistance))''. The two of them had always gotten along particularly well, so they decided to stick together. It worked pretty well for a few years. Sure, there were problems along the way, but since they had each other they'd always be okay, right? |

Savvy enough to realize that the same thing that had happened to their family was happening to him (though he didn't tell Katie for fear of scaring her too much). He began searching for someone else to take care of her, eventually coming across a simple-looking flyer asking for people to join the resistance group at UCB. Not having any better options, he decided to take her there. However, the day they arrived on campus turned out to be not too long after Alex's 18th birthday. As he began to fall asleep for what he thought might be the last time, he gave Katie some words that she remembers to this day: |
"Ever since I've known you, you've been the cheerful, smiling face that helps us all keep going. Never lose that. People need it too much, and you're just the person to give it to them. Stay strong." | "Ever since I've known you, you've been the cheerful, smiling face that helps us all keep going. Never lose that.
