In [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mage_The_Ascension Mage: the Ascension] the principles under which the universe routinely operates are somewhat maliable to those with enough power and the right understanding.  The player characters (generally) happen to be individuals with the necessary power and understanding to shift the universe as mentioned.  There are drawbacks to altering the universe though.  A force called "Paradox" produces undesired consequences in response to exceptionally dramatic changes.  Also the "Technocracy", the regime of magi currently holding the greatest sway over reality, don't take kindly toward those who would mess with their vision for the world.
