Despite the rampant corruption among the Mexican police force, Diego kept to the straight and narrow, preferring to partner up with his trusty drug dog, Reina, to help take down the cartels infesting his country. That all changed during a raid on a remote cartel warehouse in the Mexican desert. In the middle of their operation--which had resulted in a standoff with the cartel forces--a UFO landed right next to the warehouse. All hell broke loose, with a three-way battle between the Federales, the cartel and the aliens taking place. When the dust settled, Diego and Reina were the only survivors. As this was in the early days of the invasion, Diego's superiors disregarded his claims of flying saucers and little gray men, and pinned the blame for the whole debacle on him. Thankfully, there were those out there that not only believed him, but valued his experience in dealing with the invaders. After being quietly discharged from the Federales, he was contacted by X-COM, and recruited into their operative training program. '''Appearance/Personality:''' Diego is built like his callsign--a great, hairy, ursine man with piercing eyes, a massive beard and a plethora of scars. And yet, also like his callsign, he is as jolly as he is burly. He much prefers to make friends than enemies, and will resort to intimidation only in times of need. Loves animals (and especially dogs), and treats his faithful German Shepard, Reina, like royalty (her name means "queen" in Spanish).
