He has a red beard and piercing eyes that cause many individuals to grow decidedly uncomfortable in his presence. Under the Helmet of the Ankh, Valance is decidedly more impressive as a figure. '''Personality''': Doctor Ankh is a personable, helpful, and pleasant man who just happens to have vast mystical insights that even he doesn't understand. He has a tendency to talk above and beyond the present situation in flowery language that gets to be rather annoying if you spend too much time listening to it. '''Background''': Valance D'Medani is the Caer Shadowfast mail man. A struggling wizard and show performer, he was eventually forced back into the family business by the development of his Dragonmark. Valance D'Medani longed for true magical powers that would allow him to make a difference in the world. In the end, Valance made a deal that he probably shouldn't have during the last year of the Great War. Valance offered his immortal soul on a deal with a ''Lord of Dust'' in exchange for awakening his own latent magical gifts. The future Doctor Ankh thus developed genuine magical powers that he attempted to utilize for the betterment of all mankind. Unfortunately, it never quite worked out that way. Valance has found himself operating under a terrible curse with every single good deed he attempted to do with the powers given to him by the Lords of Dust being transformed horribly by circumstance. Villages he saved were soon wiped out, evils he destroyed were soon back (worse than ever), and every problem seemed to only grow worse the more he tried to poke at it. In the end, the Mourning made Valance give up. The Rise of the Watchmen has caused Valance to reconsider his previous position as the closeness of Armageddon has him believe that he may actually have some greater destiny ahead of him. Thus, when the Helmet of Doctor Ankh was found by the Watchmen, he willingly stole it from Cassius' desk to place on his head. Now merged with the spirit of the wizard Kentor, Valance is attempting to learn the secrets of magic that lie within the helmet and put them to use as a helper of the Watchmen. Suffice to say, the Watchmen are decidedly less than enthused about allowing their mailman become their ally even if he's unreasonably powerful. Furthermore, no spell seems able to break the connection the helmet has forged with him. Doctor Ankh is also someone that Cassius refuses membership in the Watchmen as well on other grounds. Doctor Ankh is a father with a 16 year old daughter named Alice. He's tutored his Tiefling daughter in the ways of magic but she's mostly just crabby and interested in regular things for girls her age rather than saving the world.
