Patrick is a young and gifted chemist, who was on track to earning his doctorate before getting the job offer for the new unit. He wouldn't have taken it, and would instead have focused on his studies, but unfortunately for him, his benefactors got in touch and informed him in no uncertain terms that he would be taking the job.

See, Patrick came from nothing. And like many people who came from nothing, he did what he had to to survive. But Patrick wanted out of that life, and he managed to get a loan from the people he worked for to go to school and earn his degree. No he owes everything to smugglers, drug-runners, and killers for hire, and although he'd love nothing more than to become a doctor and get a job at an actual company, his debts mean that he's now working as a forensic scientist for the police, and his old bosses' man on the inside in this new unit.

As part of their investment, Patrick's old bosses have also paid for some cyberware. Patrick has a drive attached to his brain that contains a database of medical and chemical information. In addition, his left eye is cybernetic with an enhance Zoom feature that allows it to mimic the function of a microscope.

Senior Detective Andrew Freeman is the only non-augmented member of the team, but as far as he's concerned that doesn't leave him any less capable of doing his job.  His special training as a crisis negotiator leaves him not only well suited to dealing with the public and attempting to deescalate potential violent situations, but also to dealing with the... strong personalities and special requirements of his teammates.

Ken Rawlings' career is the stuff of legend. At his graduation from the police academy some genius pulled a gun and sprayed the podium. Being the closest to the mayor Ken dove in front of the dignitary to protect her. The bullet shattered his spine and left him paralyzed from the waist down.

----
+
Impressed by the young officers dedication the mayor intervened and got him assigned to the cyber crime division. Ken made firm headway in tracing criminals. After three years Ken's doctor offered him an experimental biological computer chip designed to bridge the gap between his destroyed nerve tissues.

[[ESWAT | Back to ESWAT (Enhanced Special Weapons and Tactics)]].
+
The bio chip worked far better than everyone one expected. Not only could Rawlings walk again, his reflexes were faster, his agility skyrocketed. This made Ken one of the first Detroit PD jumper officers. When ESWAT was formed he was offered the position of Division Captain. He has somewhat reluctantly agreed.
