Erich is very slow and methodical in his thinking, so he comes across as stupid to some, but isn't really. He just never had the opportunity to learn to read or write. Once people get to know him, they are very loyal to him.

He grew up aspiring to be a Seeker Guardian, but when he was old enough to try to join (enlist?) he was turned away for being too small and too stupid. Now he harbors a great resentment towards them and all they stand for. He spent his time away, searching for some sign of the old gods as a tool to use against the Seekers and hopes to bring about their downfall if at all possible.
