The Guilde Alchemie makes it's headquarters here. It is not technically a part of the University per se, but established itself on neighboring grounds and makes use of the larger body of students and would be students for recruiting and most especially hiring capable peoople able to either find rare items in the field or at least able to help THEIR field roaming journeymen find them. The shared interests the Guilde has with the University are working to bring them together. There is talk that the University may incorporate the Guilde as another of it's colleges. Most of what they make are in the nature of potions and elixirs, many magical in nature but quite a few mundane ones are made too. It is said they search for the lost secret of transmutation in the deepest parts of the facility. The present head of the Guilde is Hasak Treym, an herbalist and leader of a faction that not surprisingly looks upon hedgewitch potion making as part of what a guilde should study. Many old guard Alchemists dismiss such things as beneath them and there has been growing discontent with Hasak in the year and a half since he wone his post. Chief among the old guards is Elenya, an elf of noble blood, whose conservatism in alchemical matters matches her conservativeness in almost all other things. There are some rumors though that she is not quite so conservative in bed or in choices of partners, though these rumors may be solely the creation of Dr. Thongold Maqren a longtime rival. The animosity may go deeper. Gnomes were slaves of the elves for many centuries and it's only in the last couple of decades most of them were emancipated. Some say at one point Eleyna OWNED Maqren.
