[[file:d8a.png|32px|d8]] ==Background/Bio== Gillian Kearne is a working-class girl from Beaumonde who could have ended up in cushy corporate wageslavery if she'd just taken the Blue Sun-sponsored magnet school scholarship she tested into and kept her head down, but she was always curious and willful. So when she started blowing ahead in classes on advanced Cortex technology and programming, she fell in with a hacker clique at school, using class time to dig around the network, mess with her classmates, and try to peel back the curtain from their corporate benefactors. These activities weren't nearly as secret as they thought, instead encouraged as training for future agents of corporate espionage. But one day she saw too much, found a poorly-secured shared drive where a group was working up new nerve toxins to sell to the Alliance for use on the 'insurgent elements' popping up that would become the Browncoats - and testing them on Beaumonde's itinerant and homeless population. So she copied what she could, cut herself off, and ran away. She used what she'd learned to find Independent-sympathetic cells starting to organize, warned them of the vulnerabilities she'd exploited so they wouldn't get wiped out, and joined up. When the war proper kicked off not long after, Gillian snuck off to Highgate to join the Browncoat forces proper. With her existing hacker skills, she was trained in covert operations, and found her second great love - explosives. She took on her current Cortex pseudonym then, in honor of the ancient Molly Maguires, who had lashed out at their exploitative bosses and been maligned far beyond the actual crimes they committed. Her unit was one of the most successful Browncoat commando teams, disrupting many Alliance operations including - her fondest memory of the war - blowing up the Blue Sun chemical plant on Beaumonde where they were preparing the nerve gas she'd uncovered. But despite all her personal successes, the Browncoats lost. And while many received a general amnesty, 'war criminals' like her unit did not. So she's been on the run since, but leaving data bursts wherever she can trying to set the record straight, denying the barbarities ascribed to her unit and calling out the Alliance's hypocrisy. And that's how she ended up on the Jiangshi - a good thing, too, as she'd cracked its command codes to get them flying. The past six months, she's been an enthusiastic participant in whatever mischief the crew's gotten up to. She idolizes Mal, and can generally be trusted to only wreak the amount of havoc to get the job done... unless an Alliance target of opportunity presents itself. Then he needs to lean on her a little to not start something the crew isn't prepared to finish. She's also been trying to get a wavecast off the ground, interviewing witnesses to Alliance and corporate malfeasance and getting their voices out there and heard (anonymously, of course). ==[[Firefly:_Reavers_of_the_Rim | Return to Main Page]]==
