Nobody really knows how Hoybee got to be as powerful as he is. Especially considering that he's acutely nearsighted. Hoybee still has yet to find a way to cure his nearsightedness, thus he walks around squinting, widening his eyes, and generally looks to be in the midst of a rip-roaring facial seizure.

Despite being nearly blind as a post, having poor aim, and not knowing what spells he has memorized, Hoybee's unpredictability makes him dangerous in combat. Companions have a tendancy of using him as a walking weapon. More than a few times he has gone stumbling towards enemies, casting random spells in random directions.
