Ishmael, Human Artificer 1/Fighter 1
The newest recruit to the redshirt battalions, he came from an accounting house in Fairhaven and was noted for his quiet, introspective disposition. Everyone was surprised when he didn't show up for work the next day and they read his first letter, but no one actually cared. He had a small talent for the creation and maintenance of machines and had fought in the Last War as a guardsman, but his regiment was dissolved when there were only four men left. He spends most of his time flinching and scribbling in his notebook in illegible handwriting.

Ishmael has reached seventh level, three more levels of artificer. So he's now a Fighter 1/Artificer 6. His aberration form allows him one more caster level than normal, and seven tentacle attacks, but he has a hard time writing scrolls, since apparently the ink he needs affects rather like hydrochloric acid affects wood.

Ishmael was an accountant/artificer who fought in the Last War as an undecorated member of the "Sign Painter's Legion" for Aundair. Apparently he was known for making the most inaccurate signs. On occasion, The Aundairian forces actually saw combat because of his signs. They ended up retreating into the enemy... Very bad business. Anyway, he was a little lost after the war, got married in Sharn and had a kid, Ishmael Jr.. Then he joined an accounting firm in Fairhavern while his wife and kid moved up. He got immensely bored during his employment, and decided to become an adventurer. He set off and found that the Forgotten Freedom was hiring crewmembers, so he joined on... as a redshirt... Poor, poor fool...

He soon discovered that life as a redshirt was pretty much the bottom of the barrel. He was consistently abused, driven insane, used as a doorjam, a chess piece, and on one occasion, turned into a pseudopod with seven tentacles and many, many eyes. This last one stuck rather permanently and he never figured a way to return to his normal form. He gave up when he realized he might actually survive longer a member of Volrath's aberration army.

Ishmael swore vengence on Volrath for turning him into a Aberration and using him as a chess piece. Unfortunately he also developed an obsession with Sakura earlier in the year, which left him horribly twisted and insane, which put him at roughly par with most of the crew, at least in mental stability. However, none of this was to be. He got conscripted into a war against the evilly cliched C'tan. He died saving Sakura from a strange creature the C'tan had enslaved. He killed it, but ended up as its last meal.

Volrath took the creature who had eaten Ishmael in for dissection (since Vivisection was impossible now that life was extinguished) and discovered Ishmael's corpse, and a book (Ishmael's Journal). He put it aside for further examination, but got sidetracked. Ketler was brought into the lab on a consulting basis, got stoned and reanimated  Ishmael through a traditional Frankenstein set up. Ishmael, barely sentient, found that his son, Ishmael Jr. had joined the ship to search out what happened, and forcibly gave him the book before collapsing in a heap of semi-digested flesh.

Ishmael has officially died. The funeral has not yet occurred, because Ishmael Jr. cannot prove the corpse that handed him the book was his father's.
