However, "Lucky" wasn't the best bodyguard. He honestly tried to keep the crew safe for a while, but gradually, he came to realize that it couldn't be done. Not a single crew member-- hell, not even the one who had hired him!-- could be kept safe without knocking them out and dragging them into a bomb shelter.

"Lucky" departed, and headed to the nearest Medani enclave. He found out he had been excoriated-- it seemed someone had chanced across his stash of Droaam skin mags-- and had no choice but to return to Captain Jarlot's boat.

"Lucky" served as the crew's official canary for a while. (This is generally a metaphorical title. However, there are crew members capable of casting baleful polymorph.) Instead of helping the crew, he used his divinations and dragonmark to save his ass. "Hey, where's Lucky?' has become slang for "Run away!" on board the FF.

However, at some point Lucky obtained a Belt of Gender Switching.  "Lucky" was never the word to describe his love life, so he did what any dumb male does when confronted with this situation: decide to become female because there were obviously a lot of lesbians around.  Unlike a lot of others who go through this, Lucky gained a powerful new viewpoint of the world and himself, and decided to stay female because she liked it.  Plus (aboard the FF anyway) there really are a lot of lesbians.
