====The Dogs Arrive====

Brothers [[Gates_to_the_Garden:Brother_Silas|Silas]], [[Gates_to_the_Garden:Brother_Allen|Allen]], and [[Gates_to_the_Garden/Brother_Peter|Peter]] arrived in Pike's Crossing, a little settlement on the bank of a fast-flowing stream.  They arrived to a child's funeral.  One farmer, Ezra, was visibly hysterical.  Brother Silas was immediately, deeply moved by the child's death.

The Steward, Simeon Vance, brought the Dogs back to the Temple to unpack.  Silas asked Simeon how the girl died, and Simeon told him it was the weather and illness, but that Ezra Gooden probably blamed his wealthier neighbor, Lemuel Frye.  The Dogs had dinner at the Vance table, answering questions from Simeon's curious children.  Silas learned that his cousin, lived near town.
